The Swarovski MacBook Air

Things you can buy for the same price as the new Swarovski Macbook Air...
-4 cars valued at $10,000 or 1 at $40,000
-Several Exotic Vacations
-Two inground pools
-Downpayment on a condo somewhere warm!
-Sponsor a child for 111 years
-40,000 chocolate bars
-Quit work for a year

The above is a list of several of the many things one can do with $40,000. However, some would prefer to use those funds to buy a single laptop.
"That's absurd" one might think. Well, apparently it's not. The new Apple MacBook Air also referred to as the "Golden Age" is the world's first MacBook to be fully crystalized with 12,000 Swarovski Crystal elements. With a limited edition of only twenty to be found worldwide, the laptop is described as "undoubtedly the ultimate luxury treat for the person who thought they had everything". Considering the fact that many children, in the city of Montreal alone, can barely afford basic school supplies, this new, fashionable, trendy, status setting, whatever you want to call it laptop, just makes me sad. It is predominantley college-university aged people who make the most use of this kind of technology. Many of these students need to take out loans just to pay their tuition, how on earth could they afford this? The new Swarovski Edition laptop is obviously geared to the rich and famous. People who have nothing better to do with their money. As harsh as it sounds, it's the truth. If I had absolutely nothing better to do with my money, and had loads of it, and thought of a million other things to spend it on, and spent it on them, I would then maybe consider buying this laptop. It's the redundant story of society today: "Although you really, really, don't need this, we're going to sell it to you anyway. Although this will make no difference in your life, you're going to pay a lot for it". Why do so many of us find ourselves in this type of a dilemma? (however, I must state that many of us do not even realize what we're buying into). We fall into these things for several reasons, one being social status: I have "this", therefore I am like "this", and therefore belong to "this" group of people. We do it because we think material possessions will make us happy and fill the void inside our souls. We do it because we are lead to believe that we actually need these things. We do it because we like these things, because they glitter and sparkle. It's just very frustrating to see so many of us living with this mindset. Spending all our paycheques on gadgets and clothes and shoes and cars and homes and laptops encrusted with crystals. Things we DON'T need. I'll bet that if we all bought one less item of clothing per month, we could put that money and make a huge difference in someone's life. In the life of someone who doesn't have the things they actually need. Dont get me wrong, it's fun to have nice things, but I believe there should be a balance, and in this self-centered world, it's so easy to ignore the desperate needs of others, as we spend thousands, and millions, on ourselves, for the most futile things. I challenge you to actually take that money you've been saving up for that Apple Swarovski MacBook Air- that's all the rage, and put it somewhere that will change someone's life. But if you really, really want it, I've come up with an alternate solution: all you'll need is a glue stick, and a bag of sparkles (works great on notebooks too)...
Your own personalized Sparkly MacBook: $ 1,902.00
Your own Swarovski MacBook that does the exact same thing as the one above: $ 40, 000.00
Savings: $ 38,098.00
'nuff said.
