Another dark side of Wonderland..

Maybe it's just that I am afraid of cats... but I find this image very disturbing...
The artwork is from the front cover art for the album “Wonderland” (The Penultimate Truth).
In addition it was published in the art book d'artiste: Digital Painting 2 (Ballistic Publishing).

Tom Ford to Make a Movie

I know I've created a lot of posts lately, but this one was just too big. I'll just copy and paste!

"File under things that we missed: Tom Ford's directorial dream is about to become a reality, marking yet another example today of the designer's skill behind the lens. Ford's adaptation of Christopher Isherwood's A Single Man is set to begin filming in L.A. in October, and Julianne Moore and Jamie Bell are already rumored to be attached. The source of those rumors? E Online, which, evidently, just became required reading."

Queen of Hearts

This is a piece by Melissa Findley, I think it really portrays the Queen as a true villain.

Hey Guys! I just found some images of Alice and Co. by an artist named Chris Appelhans. This is a very dark and edgy adaptation of Wonderland. I would highly recommend that you check out some more of his stuff at the following site: http://www.froghatstudios.com

Boss Orange

The Hugo Boss F/W 08 campaign is definitely my favourite for this season. This campaign was shot in Florence Italy by Terry Richardson. I personally really like the mood of this campaign and the fact that it was shot in such a great city and I think it matches perfectly with the unique style of Hugo Boss Orange. Here is a link to the video of the campaign: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P48Q8YOmSeA

Wear Palettes

I had come across this website a while ago in its opening stages..a Swedish graphic design student who took pictures from fashion photographers (eg The Sartorialst) and provided color palettes for the photograph. The website really has gone a long way, today one can just head over to the website, click on the color they're thinking of, and a wide range of different color palettes with examples of people kickin' that particular combination will pop up.

You should head over and check it out (hint: click on "check it out"). Maybe try a couple of the combinations? Pretty freesshh.

This fall I'm having weird flashbacks of childhood when I see the jumpsuits walking down the runway. Although they are made of much nicer fabrics and are probably about 20 times more flattering (and therefore expensive) than the ones my mom used to throw on me, I still believe this would be a tough one to pull off! I think this style is made for the tall, slender ladies out there, and I feel on my 5 foot 2 frame, I'd look frumpy. But who knows! Maybe all of you will prove me wrong...

Shoe Boots

The one thing I love about fall is over dressing and wearing warn cozy boots. However, this fall the most fashionable item is the 'open toe boot', now I know that fashion doesn't always make sence but I find that this is the most impracticle thing I have ever seen. How does the idea of warn heels and cold toes sound pleasing? This is such a wierd trend, some of the shoe boots look ok but they just arn't that practicle.

Cristian Siriano the next BIG thing?

Hey guys!
I read a recent post on a blog the other day about Cirstian Siriano, the winner of Project Runway season 4. I found it pretty interesting. He already has an upcoming Spring 2009 line that is still to be finalized and many more projects to come. Some of these projects include a future maternity line, an upcoming book and many guest appearances on television shows. I took the time to check his designs out and I honestly think that they are absolutely amazing. Not only are his designs original, but the color combinations are just fabulous! There are lots of gray and icy tones that are used with a shock of vibrant color to compliment the outfits. The looks are very refined, but still edgy and chic at the same time. If you really pay attention to these designs, you can tell that there is alot of detail that went into them as well. I give him props and I really think he did a good job on his collection. I mean it seems like he's been doing this for years when really, he just started. I am really eager to see what he has in store for us next season! Afterall, you never know, with genius ideas like these, Cristian Siriano may just be the next big thing! I'll post some pictures just to give you guys an idea of the collection. (I wanted to post all the pictures, but I took the ones that I thought were the best)
Let me know if you guys agree or disagree with me!

Ellen Degeneres Cover Girl?

So the rumor is true! Ellen Degeneres will be the new face for cover girl. From Drew Barrymore, to Rihanna, Ellen is the new face joining up with these other ladies for commercials, spoke person and model for Cover Girl. Some might say... Well isn't she too old to be a model? Well..I say it's great! She's 50 and looks amazing for her age. It's great to finally see women like Queen Latifah and Ellen, that represent ACTUAL women as cover girls.
Any way, So my personal opinion is, Ellen being the new face for cover girl is awesome, it shows women who are 50+ that they look great and can feel great at the same time, and not necessarily need to go run out and get botox and face lifts, & could look great in their skin! Plus I think it's a good Marketing concept by targeting older women, being that all the baby boomers are 50+!

How skinny is too skinny?

Last month the Montreal Gazette published an article about the president of La Maison Simons pulling their most recent catalogue publication. As you may have already heard, this decision was made based on the fact that the catalogue was featuring models that were perceived by the public as being underweight and unhealthy examples for girls and women. Simons has been able to save face by issuing an immediate and apparently sincere apology from the president, as well as halting any further distribution of the images. I have personally never seen the images in question and am curious as to how graphic they actually were. Over the last year or so we have begun to see the fashion industry beginning to denounce what for many years, was considered to be the ideal body type. Do you agree that too skinny models should be banned from runways and print ads, or do you think that the industry promoting healthy body type is just the latest trend?
If interested, you can find afore mentioned article in the August 29th edition of the Gazette.

Terry Richardson shoots Barack Obama

You might know or recognize Terry Richardson's photographs from Tom Ford's recent campaigns, Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds cover, or even Diesel's Global Warming Ready Ads. Regardless, when Terry pops open his lens cover, nothing but brilliance rolls out. Most of the stuff he does is more on the wild side (just Google Image his name). Genius, but definitely out there. So it really came as a surprise to me to see him shooting a political figure such as good old Barack. I guess it seems like the art industry as a whole, which of course includes fashion, has gravitated to his cool guy style and no nonsense look. Even the editors at GQ like him, and they don't like anybody. Anyways, check out the pictures and see what you think.

Ps. Google Image Tom Ford and Terry Richardson...I dare you.

Thecoolhunters.com

So it kind of took me awhile to figure out how to use this blog, since i'm the only person in the world who doesn't subscribe to one. Anyways, i recently came across this website called Thecoolhunters.com. Single handedly the coolest website i have ever seen. They have amazing architectural layouts buildings (like unique mcdonalds designs), fashion designs and amazing ads that are not in our average typical boring consumer styles, or that we're simply to scared to try. This site offers a look at collections from top fashion designers;such as Yves st laurent, but collections we rarely get a chance to see close up. I definetly think its worth it to take a look at this site, so we can add a creative edge to the fashion show

Scare tactics?

The other day I bought the new Elle. I enjoy this magazine because I find that it has alot of interesting articles and trend reports, however I have noticed that now more than ever there are so many articles telling you to start perventing aging once you pass 20. I am 21 and I feel like I'm being scared into this trend of buying anti-aging cream and everything else they are trying to sell to me. I don't know what to do, which to buy, it's like we get bombarded with these type of scare adds. If I don't use the products being advertised does that mean I'll grow up to be plagued with bad skin and wrinkles. I just feel that its not right for the advertising companies to prey on our fears of aging so that we will buy their products.

Keith Richards for Louis Vuitton

I recently came across this ad and thought it was amazing so I decided to do a post about it even though the ad was out by last April. This campaign was created to show travel as the fundamental value of Louis Vuitton, interpreting it as a personal journey and a process of self-discovery. The tagline that can be seen in the second picture states: "Some journeys cannot be put into words. New York. 3 am. Blues in C." I think that Keith Richards definitely represents a personal and emotional journey so choosing him seems like a great choice to me.
So I was wondering, what do you guys think of using celebrities to promote a brand?

Travel Wallets

Everybody loves travelling! Many also have travel wallets, meaning wallets especially made to carry credit cards, a passeport, a boarding pass and other compartments. They can be found anywhere. Some designers also sell travel wallets but the ones made by Louis Vuitton are really nice. These wallets really come in handy when you're often in a plane. So why not having a trendy one? We can find the LV ones in the colors shown in the picture. They can be bought for565$ (meaning you better travel a lot) on louisvuitton.com

Enjoy the flight!

Style made Affordable

For the past five years now, Target has been teaming up with the newest designers to create affordable and stylish pieces, at reasonable prices. Design collaborations have included Behnaz Sarafpour, Richard Chai, Jovovich Hawk, and Patrick Robinson, among other youthful designers. Recently, Target has established their own line based on previous teamings, to create the new Target Go International Line", in which they roll out a number of new items each season. These items are usually priced from around ten to fourty dollars, and include dresses, pants, jackets, denim etc. With the economy falling into a recession, fashionistas can flock to the nearest Target (unfortunately not a franchise in Canada yet) and stock up on some of these great designer alternatives!
